Karlyn Cauley is a Sister of the Divine Savior in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A studio artist, she taught art and worked with sisters in temporary vows for many years. Presently she does ecumenical work in the adult spirituality of women.

Lilian Bong is a Sister of St. Joseph of the Apparition who was born in Malaysia. As a nurse she did medical mission outreach in Myanmar, before entering her community. She ministers in Western Australia as a Provincial Councilor and in vocation / mission appeal.

Adriana Haro Betancourt is a member of the Verbum Dei Missionary Fraternity. Orginally from Mexico, she currently works in youth ministry in the Philippines, does congregational communication committee work, and produces a weekly online radio program for youth evangelization.

Every day there are situations in the news related to violence, racial discrimination, social upheavals, or questions involving immoral and unethical conditions. Keep your head in the game! Is this the way God meant for us to live? I am sure it is not! But that is the way minorities have had to live in the United States in order to survive.

Over the next several weeks, GSR will bring a sharper focus to the plight of refugees through a special series, Seeking Refuge, which will follow the journeys refugees make: living in camps, seeking asylum, experiencing resettlement and integration, and those who are deported to a country they may only vaguely remember or that may still be dangerous. Though not every refugee follows this exact pattern, these stages in the journey are emblematic for many — and at every stage, women religious are doing what they can to help.
