If you ask God for guidance, be ready for surprises

Alice Ann O'Neill describes discerning whether to pursue a doctorate in performance (she's a cellist) or in music education. She made a "very, deeply sincere prayer" asking God to tell her what to do.

"Be a sister," he responded.

In the end, she fulfilled the requirements for both degree programs — and followed the path God suggested, as well.

"If you make a prayer like this, you better be ready for what happens because God is listening," O'Neill said. And his response may come as a surprise.
