Sr. Mary Wambui is director of a program for vulnerable children and women near Nairobi. Born in Kenya into a family of 11 children, she joined the Missionary Congregation of the Evangelizing Sisters of Mary after high school and graduated from Tangaza College. She celebrated her silver jubilee in 2008. Wambui previously worked in several parishes as a social worker, especially with women’s groups. The program she now works with grows directly out of her congregation’s mission.

Sr. Karen Dietrich is head of a successful quintet of Catholic grade schools in Camden, N.J. Established in 2009, Catholic Partnership Schools is a non-profit management organization that pooled resources to eliminate debt and bring technology, services and extra-curricular activities to the 1,000 students they serve. Without it, three of the five schools would have closed.
Global Sisters Report asked several sisters in Nairobi to describe themselves and their work, which includes teaching, broadcasting and advocating for women. They are Srs. Adelaide Ndilu, Dr Ephigenia Gachiri, Agnes Wamuyu Ngure and Lina Wanjiku.
