Global Sisters Report announces new editor Soli Salgado

Gail DeGeorge moves into Editor Emerita role

Soli Salgado

The National Catholic Reporter Publishing Co. is pleased to announce that Soli Salgado, currently International Editor of Global Sisters Report, will become Editor as of Sept. 2, 2024. Gail DeGeorge, who has been editor of GSR since January 2016, will be moving into a role as Editor Emerita / Special Projects. Global Sisters Report is an award-winning website publication that focuses on Catholic sisters and their ministries around the world.

Salgado joined Global Sisters Report in February 2016, after serving as an intern at National Catholic Reporter since January 2015. As GSR expanded, she became the Latin American correspondent, where she excelled in reporting on difficult and complex issues including human trafficking, migration, and the Nuns and Nones movement. She filed from 13 countries, including papal trips and the Amazon Synod of Bishops in the Vatican. Salgado earned several awards by both the Catholic Media Association and Associated Church Press. Two years ago, she took on the job of International Editor and helped launch GSR en español in May 2023.

In her emerita role, DeGeorge will continue to oversee special projects started under her tenure, such as GSR in the Classroom, organizing Witness & Grace sessions, and fulfilling some planned events such as Sisters and Health Care forums. She’ll also assist in fundraising for GSR, and write and report stories and/or columns as her time allows

"We could not have hoped for someone as qualified as Soli to take the leadership role at Global Sisters Report," said Joe Ferullo, CEO and Publisher of National Catholic Reporter. "We thank Gail for the astounding job she has done in evolving and growing GSR into the respected and trusted news outlet it is today. I am thrilled that she will stay on part-time to work on special projects. This is an exciting new chapter for an exceptional and impressive organization."
