Sr. Maxine Kollasch and Sr. Julie Vieira, both Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, discuss the meaning of "vows" and "consecration" and "authority."

"Consecration means 'to associate with the sacred.' It's a setting apart for the service of God," Sister Maxine said. "The first consecration we have is our baptism. We live that consecration out our entire life."

As for a public vow, Sister Julie described that as "a sign and a symbol of making that profession  for the whole universal church."
