Monastic Land Stewardship Series - Upcoming Speaker

The Center for Benedictine Life at the Monastery of St. Gertrude - as part of their monthly Diffusions: Wisdom from the Center Zoom series "Monastic Land Stewardship: Caring for the Earth in Troubled Times" - will feature Brenna Cussen Anglada of Nuns and Nones' Land Justice Futures on Saturday, June 8, beginning at 10:00 am (Pacific Time). Brenna's topic will be: "Ecological and Racial Healing Through Religious Land Legacies."

The series, which continues through August, focuses on exploring the perspectives of contemplative and monastic communities on the ethics of care for the land. Through both historical and current examples, the speakers discuss the relationship between the vow of stability and sense of place, the virtue of simplicity as an environmental ethic, work and prayer (Ora et Labora) as ecological theology, and Lectio Terra as embodied spirituality. The speakers highlight the quiet environmental justice and conservation work that is happening on monastic lands all over North America, as well as offer a vision for how monastic lands can contribute to a racially and ecologically just future.
