From Thursday, February 23rd to Sunday, February 26th, the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Blauvelt, New York, participated in their Chapter of Life and Mission.
Sisters, Associates, and guests gathered at Saint Dominic Convent in Blauvelt to partake in this significant milestone.
This particular Chapter of Life and Mission was significant to the congregation as its theme focused on “Passion for the Possible.”
Led by the Chapter Committee of Sisters Barbara Werner, Jenn Schaaf, Terry Rickard, and Maggie McDermott, Chapter attendees participated in an enriching four-day event that included much discussion on finding “A Roadmap of Mission and Spiritual Vitality.”
Throughout the Chapter, attendees discussed the future of the congregation as well as heard from guest speakers.
On Friday, Dr. Teresa Berger of Yale Divinity School spoke about integrating Laudato Si into our lives.
During Saturday’s program, Sr. Maureen Geary, OP, of the Dominican Sisters of Grand Rapids and President-Elect of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR), and Sr. Patricia Twohill, OP, Prioress of the Dominican Sisters of Peace, spoke about legacy and passing on the Charism.
After the Chapter concluded, many in attendance felt an overwhelming amount of gratitude for their time together.
When asked about her experience at Chapter, Sr. Bridget Mary Troy, OP, a Sister of Saint Dominic, shared a quote from Desmond Tutu.
“Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”
In the upcoming weeks, the Sisters of Saint Dominic will prepare for another significant congregation milestone when they host their election in April to vote on the upcoming Leadership Team, who will begin serving a five-year term in June 2023.
