Winifred Doherty

Winifred Doherty is a Good Shepherd Sister from Ireland. She is a social worker by profession, and worked in Ethiopia for 16 years, empowering girl children and young women through education and microfinance programs. She has been the NGO representative to the United Nations for her congregation and its partners-in-mission since 2008, collaborating with other nongovernmental organizations in New York and globally, especially in the areas of the eradication of poverty, prostitution and human trafficking, violence against women and girls, and working for the promotion of the girl child and integral ecology.

Success at the 2022 Commission on the Status of Women

This year's Commission on the Status of Women was a success — ending with an outcome document and a first on women's empowerment in the context of climate action. Enthusiasm was high despite the crises facing humanity.
