GSR won nine awards from Catholic Media Association for stories published in 2021, with many related to coverage of the effects of the pandemic. Notably, judges recognized GSR's signature series "A Just Transition."

The National Catholic Reporter Publishing Company has received a $3.3 million grant from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation for the continuation and expansion of the online publication Global Sisters Report.

The Associated Church Press recognized the 2021 journalism of Global Sisters Report with several awards, including Awards of Excellence related to national reporting, in-depth coverage, theme issues and interviews.

Sisters at the UISG plenary included prayers for Russian President Vladimir Putin "to hold this space of goodness, even for him. The spirit of good is extraordinary." 

As the world seeks normalcy in the COVID-19 pandemic's third year, leaders and experts urge vaccination and vigilance amid complacency, vaccine opposition, economic hardship, and inequalities in vaccine access.
